Day 1102 - We charged right from the git go!

A splendid beginning concluded with a good ending. We burned 740 in the first thirty today. Today, was different from yesterday because we maintained a good pace to finish by burning a total of 1449 calories in the entire hour. As I have mentioned before I usually do not include in my posting any information about the cool down or extra exercises.

Today, I am happy to report that after a little hiatus from doing abdominal exercises I have restarted doing crunches. As of now I am up to 500 crunches a day.

I feel awesome and definitely look forward to Day 1103 when we turn to a workout after 23 hours of rest. Today we had 18 hours and 11 minutes of rest.

I'm ready!

Day 1101 Will the forces outside of us defeat the forces inside of us?

Isn't that the question. As we all go forward here. The world we create around us allows us to battle these outside forces. There are driving forces we all possess than have been developed and are there to help us. Then, there are also outside forces that move us at times where we want to go and at other times where we do not wish to go.

What are these inside forces? I believe they are a desire to look good, feel good and to do good. What are these outside forces? At this point, I believe they are time and the desire to be with other people.

I have arrived at the understanding that if we boil down our lives there are certain areas that just seem to make the biggest difference. It will always come down to how we manage these areas that will determine where we go and how we got here.

Shall I break all of these key areas down and examine them piece by piece? I do not believe I have the time right now. However, just knowing they are present is enough for me.

Today is Eleven oh one! I salute all the runners out there and hope they do a great job today!
I am praying for all the non exercise people to re energizes themselves and join the movement of moving around.

The gym on Sunday opens usually at 7am its now 847am - I need to utilize my ability to conquer one of my inside forces. Can you decide which one needs to be satisfied?

Chalk me up for staying on the 1400 streak! However, unable to hit today's goal 1455++- I started off so incredibly strong. Burned 738 calories in the first thirty minutes then kind of ran out of gas in the second thirty. My total for the sixty was 1426. A major drop of 688 for the second go around.

Life is sweet! Felt awesome! Here comes a 17 hour rest to get ready for Day 1102!

Day 1100- What can I say?

This is nothing short of amazing. One thousand was impressive but now as the hundreds start to come it gets more and more awesome. I always whenever I am asked, "everyday?"I say I feel great.
I suppose it comes down to that, how do you feel?

There was a time when I really was wondering what happens if you do a workout every day? I think and am starting to believe that muscle memory takes over. The body and mind are in such unison that the very action makes the process almost natural.

I wish there was some feedback out there where people who have repeated the same action for a number of days in a row could give their ideas on this. I know there are runners that have not missed a day for tens of years.
Here is the list

As of today, I have joined Runners World!

Welcome all members!

I am pumped to do my Saturday workout and attack 1414++ in calories burned in an hour.

Once I got warm, I was in attack mode. When I burned 727 in the first thirty minutes I knew I was going stay on pace. Like magic, I burned another 727 calories in next thirty minutes.

Just to know the names of at least 257 people that have run at least a mile every day between the last 40 to 3 years. There probably are tons more. Heck, they say there are more than a million millionaires. So, there must be tens of thousands of people that engage in some cardiovascular activity everyday and have been doing so for years and years.

So put me down for 1100, and put me down for 1114 sixty minute cardiovascular workouts in the last 1100 days.

Well, today I must have joined some club. I know for sure I did subscribe on line to Runners World.

Day 1101 awaits where we go after 1454+++

Day 1099 Within one step of 1100

Not really, its more like 60 minutes which usually includes many steps. Actually they are called strides. I usually average about 70- 90 a minute, which in an hour equals 4200 to 5400.

As we charge ahead with a gleam in our eye we look forward to the coming days.

Day 1100 will be here soon!

Day 1098 Two to get eleven

Two days and we will be at the first milestone to get to four years. Hey wait a minute, four years is one presidential term. However, the first milestone is 1100 days. Four years is about how long my Dad served in World War II. Four years is a very interesting span of time. Four years equals 365 x 4= 1460 days. During a leap year you add one day. So, make it 1461 days. Which is 363 days from today.

Yes sir, we have embarked on an historic journey. We have been traveling for 36 plus months.Well, we only got another 12 to go. During this streak there have only been a few occasions when I did my workouts away from home. Regardless, it has been a great journey.

Everyday has been an adventure. Today, although I burned less in the hour than yesterday I felt awesome, as I felt totally finished when time was up. I emptied the tank!

Burning 1426 calories in the hour never felt so go-od.

Now we have to 2 go to hit 1100
Next up, Day 1099 I am psyched!

Day 1097 The first day of year III

We cannot overlook the journey. As the numbers merely represent the destination the journey is clearly the most exciting part of the process. To focus on only the numbers misses the point. The emotion the pure joy in fulfilling the goal is precisely where it is at!

I was asked today," don't you listen to music while you workout?"My answer was, "no I am focused on only one thing and that one thing is beating yesterday's total."

A good cardiovascular workout allows one to relax, to have clearer thoughts, and to have positive feelings. People would flock to gyms in droves if for one day they could have the feelings I do on a daily basis when I do my workout.

The bible says, "the kingdom of heaven is within us."After working out on a daily basis for the last three years I find it very hard to refute that.

As I urge again and again if you are on a workout plan increase it,if you are not working out start one.

Remember action leads to confidence and confidence leads to action.

Today, I burned 1435 in the hour by burning more in the second thirty minutes than the first thirty minutes.I burned 708 and then 727, no new record, but not bad.

Now we march toward four years but first, we have to pass a few milestones. Milestone number one is 1100 days. After Day 1098 we will be two days away.

Here we go Day 1098 in now on the front burner.--Let's beat 1436+++

Day 1096 As the year comes to a finish we finish with a new record!

Burning 1434 calories in the hour did stand for long as a personal high for calories burned per hour prior to 6 am.No, make way for 1458 per hour as the personal high for calories burned prior to 6 am!The old record stood for about 24 hours. As on more rest than the day before, I was able set and keep an awesome pace. By thirty minutes my calorie burn was 728. My calorie burn pace increased from there. In the next thirty minutes I burned 730 calories.

As I said before, "there is no better feeling then increasing your pace as you go."

So the bar has been raised even higher. The challenge to meet is there every morning.

Today we completed 1096 consecutive days. Now as we embark on the next day we will begin our march towards four years. Three years are in the books. The third year already has 14 workouts in it. Our first milestone will be 1100.

Here is a look back on what I did on the last day of the last three years.
Day 1096 burned 1458 calories while working out on the arc trainer - weight 181
Day 731 burned 1411 calories while working out on the arc trainer- weight 177
day 366 burned 931 calories while working out on the life cycle-weight 170

Now move on and anxiously await another crack at the record.

Day 1097 awaits.....

Day 1095 We have set a new standard

As of today, we have set a different number of calories to burn in an hour on a workout that ends prior to 6am.Hooray for me, one day before the completion of two straight years of doing a sixty minute cardiovascular workout, I broke a personal record by burning 1434 calories in an hour. The record prior was 1416 calories burned in an hour set on February 9 Th 2011 Day 1083. Here we are 12 days later and we break the record.

Love it! It is amazing how the confidence I have in burning calories has risen. In the last three days, I have burned 1454,1481 and 1434 calories in an hour. That is a great stretch. The old adage says action breeds confidence and confidence breeds action.

Having a confident action will lead to more action. So stay active and action oriented!

We got a fresh snow fall this morning. No storm just a dusting as February reminds us what tricks it can do.

The next day will be Day 1096, the last day of year two.I have completed 1109 workouts in the last 1095 days.

Tomorrow, we look to set a another new standard - 1435++ - I am indeed psyched for the challenge.

Day 1094 Happy 156TH Sunday!

The Sunday routine usually includes the weekly sleep in where I get up around 7 am, post a little bit and then get ready for the workout.I am coming off a workout yesterday where I burned 1454 calories in the cherished hour. I have yet to uncover the last time I had burned that much calories in the hour.

Did a little research. The last day I burned 1454 calories or more was Day 800. On May 2ND 2010 I burned 1455 calories.

Now, its nearly 8am and I will begin the workout soon.
Last time I did this much of a calorie burn in an hour I followed it up with a burn of about the same the next day.

I am psyched to crush that mark TODAY!

YES! We crushed it! To the tune of burning 1481 calories in the hour.It never seems to fail, whenever I look back at old records I get motivated and my confidence soars. Today I noticed back on Day 797 I burned 1479 calories in an hour. So, I had to do more than that today!

Once again the pace was the key along with the extra rest. Plus, I slept from 11pm to 7 am. Put it altogether energy + pace = big numbers!

I love it!
Day 1095 will be here before we know it!

Day 1093 The Three Year Plan

The fact is I never planned on working out everyday for three years. I just started working out on February 23, 2008 with a goal of working out that day to feel better. I was coming off a winter cold where I felt blah. Once I started to feel better I said "I mind as well keep on working out."

Up to that point I was working out about 5 to 6 times a week. I had been doing that since 1998. I had no idea my simple concept of working out everyday would evolve to three years.

Three years when you add it up comes out to 365 days times three which equals 1095 days. Except, if there is a leap year. In 2008, there was a leap year so you add 1 day to the month of February. When you add one day to the total of 1095 you arrive at 1096 days.

Now, setting the record straight for this illustrious streak of days. On 14 days I worked out for sixty more minutes. When add 14 to 1096 1110 days of work outs in that three year span of time. In essence, I have averaged over a three time, 1.01 workouts per day.

I look at these numbers this way. Pretend, going from 999 days to 1000 days was like entering a new state. Now, this state has 99,000 more of x than the other. You can say this is the mainland. There are 271 years in the next 99,000 days.

It is in the next 271 years that unless I am immortal, the streak will die. Heck, this country was born in 1776 and on July 4TH 2011 it will be 235 years old.

So, I labeled day 1000 comma town or quad city. What I really should of called it was comma state or quad country. As I now realize we are going to be here for a while.

So my friends I have participated in three years of an activity. My God bless the days ahead.

I hope my activity and any one's activity that has that extent of time serves God and mankind well.

Saturday's have been the days I usually post and relax prior to my workout. The gym will soon be opening. This is the last Saturday I will post in year two. Next Saturday, with the Good Lord willing, I will post for the 1st time in year three. In fact, next Saturday will be day 1100.

It time to attack 1395 ++++ calories an hour! Roger Bannister, where ever you are, root me!

Thank you Mr Bannister, actually Sir Roger Bannister. I kept saying to myself while I was doing the workout. "Just keep the pace."

Once I established a great pace of burning 729 calories in the first 30 minutes I worked at maintaining that pace for the next 30 minutes. Since my pace was so strong, falling off it just a bit did not stop me from burning a bunch of calories in an hour.

It was a sensational feeling burning 1454 calories in an hour. I took advantage of the extra rest in between workouts. Yep burning 60 more calories in an hour in some 24 hours and 50 minutes of rest was truly awesome!

The 1454 burn was the most in awhile. I still want to break the personal best I set when I burned 1515 in an hour.

Now we are down to three days for three years. Day 1094 AWAITS .....

Friday, February 18, 2011

Day 1092 I had the record breaking pace for 40 minutes

That took a lot of energy. As we go through this funky winter recess I cannot decide whether or not to dress cooler or warmer. Oh well, I started off a little slow then had hooked onto an awesome pace. When I reached the 40 minute mark a full two thirds of the workout I had burned 950 calories. That pace would have gotten me to burn 1425 calories in an hour.

I look at these attempts to break personal records similar to Roger Bannister's attempt to break the four minute mile. I have written about this awesome achievement before. It still amazes me. Prior to that famous day of May 6, 1954 no human had been able to accomplish that feat. But then almost mysteriously people started to shatter the four minute mile. Why?

I boil it all down to one word, BELIEF!

I wound up only burning 1394 today. The four minute mile only lasted so long.

Tomorrow, we will beat today! When we burn 1395++ as the Day 1093 takes center stage!

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Day 1091 I burned 1375 calories in an hour, so what does that mean?

For starters, it means I burned more in today's hour, than I did in yesterday's hour.It also means at 601 in the morning I would not be denied the prize of beating yesterday's total. So, in that sense it means I gained an early victory. Which to a competitive person it makes them feel great.

Since today is a warmer day I am wondering if I could have burned more calories per hour if I wore only two layers instead of three. With this morning's temperature hovering around 35 degrees and forecasted to hit 50, I am contemplating to go with two layers tomorrow.

I finished strong today to get the victory. I needed to burn 197 calories with about 7 minutes left to get to a total burn of 1400 calories in an hour.In order to accomplish that amount one needs to burn 28.14 calories per minute. Should one burn 28.14 calories a minute for 60 minutes they would burn 1688.The most I have burned in an hour on this machine is 1515. I know I am an enthusiastic person but, burning 197 in 7 minutes is quite the effort.

My total burned in the 7 minutes were 172. Which was a 24.57 average of calories burned per minute. Twenty four point fifty seven calories burned for sixty minutes is a total of fourteen hundred and seventy four point twenty nine calories burned in one hour.Had I maintained that pace I would set a personal record. So I can honestly say I was able to put together a fantastic finish to beat yesterday's total.

Ah but, tomorrow ( Day 1092) is a new day and with it comes a clear shot at beating today. Who knows? Maybe I will break my personal highest total for calories burned in an hour on the machine.

The game starts now beat 1376+++...I'm ready!

Day 1090 The itsy bitsy spider!

Well. the itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout. Down came the rain and washed the spider out.Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.Out came the spider to climb the spout again.

Today, I was the itsy bitsy spider. I was climbing the water spout. Then, down came the rain and I burned less calories per hour than I did the day before. This children's song is a great metaphor for life. This song is all about persistence. Think about it, the spider starts climbing then gets stopped by the rain.He gets himself together after being stopped then he starts climbing again.

I have been doing this day in day out for just about three years now. Everyday I try to do a bigger calorie burn than the day before. I usually reach a certain level then I fall back. However, like the itsy bitsy spider I start again!

Today, the burn in sixty was 1372.Why less than yesterday? I suppose I just could not get loose enough to let it rip and burn more. I started with a 684 in the first 30 minutes. I did burn more in the second thirty when I burned 688 calories.

Tomorrow will be Day 1091 and will put us five days from three years. Not only that, Day 1091 will leave us only nine days from 1100 days.

Day 1091 will be a burn of 1373++++. I'm ready to climb!

Day 1089 Never a dull moment

When you constantly throw challenges in front of yourself that get you excited how can there ever be a dull moment? I challenged myself to burn x number of calories today. Yesterday, my challenge was extremely daunting and I fell dramatically short. However, the concept of the challenge is the origin of the excitement.I think any challenge is worth an even portion of excitement.

Should excitement to present then enthusiasm is not far behind. I know when I work out I do it with enthusiasm the challenges are really just the icing in the cake. The core of my workouts is my love of the process.

Since I was young and I learned about playing anything I always loved the process of the competition. A good analogy would be on your mark, get set, go! That just get me excited.
My focus is always a favorable outcome.

As I said yesterday we need to burn 1400++ calories per hour.I started off by burning 706 in the first half hour. When I hit the 45 minute mark I need to burn 348 calories. When I reached 55 minutes with 119 to go. My target was 1400 and I had to average 23.33 per minute. My pace was 23.29 per minute. I needed to increase my pace in order to hit the goal.

Here is where the fun is incalculable. Here is where my discussing and commenting should and usually will fall upon deaf ears. to most. Except, for the few that love it. The ones that want victory so bad that they are eaten up by it. Here is where I usually don't care what happens unless I hit my goal.

Hitting that goal is so sweet, burning 1401 calories today was so awesome I am out of words.

Now we set our sights on TEN NINETY! Along with that a burn of 1402++ per hour.
I am psyched here it comes....

Monday, February 14, 2011

Day 1088 Happy Valentine's Day 39 degrees happy!

Yep, happy to all and happy to see at 430am it was, can you believe this.... THIRTY NINE DEGREES?

About a week or so ago I set the record for most calories burned in an hour before 6am. Today, I was on pace to break that record. As once again, I got off to a blistering pace. When I burned 723 calories in thirty minutes I was on pace to burn 1446 calories in an hour. With the record set on Day 1083 at 1416 per hour I was a cinch to burn 1417 and beyond but I ran out of energy.

I had a strong pace. After 40 minutes of the workout I had burned 952 calories. With the magic number of 1416 staring me in the face I only needed to burn 465 calories in the last 20 minutes to break the record. I finished by burning 1396 calories in the hour. It left me 21 calories short of the record.

Check this out, I was averaging a calorie burn of 23.8 per minute for the first 40 minutes. In that last twenty minutes my calories burn per minute went down to a 22.2 calorie burn per minute. My overall cbpm(calorie burn per minute) for sixty minutes was 23.27, ouch. Had I maintained the pace I had at forty minutes I would have burned 1428 calories per hour.

One step further, to show how I could have easily burned more than 1417 calories in the hour was my earlier pace where I burned 723 calories in the first thirty minutes. At the thirty minute mark I was on pace to burn 1446 calories per hour. BUMMER!

I just love it! The first 30 minutes and even the last thirty. It is just a pleasure to get on the machine and let it rip!

I once told someone about this streak I was on and his reply was "its a blessing."

I am fortunate and I do feel, truly blessed.

Day 1089 - burn more than 1396 in the hour.

I am ready, here it comes.....

Sunday, February 13, 2011

Day 1087 A good full day as we stride toward the workout

We can see the goal ahead burn 1440 calories per hour. The rest will be somewhere between 23 to 24 hours. One thing I have learn by working out everyday is I am not always aware of what I have in terms of energy each day. I know that sound obvious but despite my attempts to keep myself on an even keel I do not know what I have day to day.

Such is the vagaries of sport and the game of chance, where we never know until we lace them up and see what happens. That my friends is one of the beauties of this streak. The only constant is me, and my showing up everyday ready to participate.

Here we go, tally ho---- The target has been illuminated and we are ready to fire!

Oh man! An explosive start as we burned 750 calories in the first thirty minutes. I hit the machine running and had a great pace that carried me all the way to a 873 calorie burn after 35 minutes. My pace was a hair below a 1500 calorie burn per hour. The most I have ever burned to my knowledge in an hour is 1515. I was feeling that today. As I blasted through 750 I had visions of breaking that total. However, this game I play where I challenge myself to beat yesterday's total, gets a little tricky. The game is to go for a huge number of calories burned per hour and then beat the day before total.

As I said before, lets burn 1440++ today. So with that clearly in view I burned 1455. I beat yesterday by 15 but, I was on such an awesome pace I 'm a little disappointed I did not burn more. But hey, it felt so good to be on that pace once again no words can describe it.

Now the bar is set high- GOOD!-- Let us see what I got.

Up early to burn 1456+++ -Go get M!
DAY 1088 HER IT COMES...

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Day 1086 This will be the One hundred and fifty fifth

As we add up the days and look backward and forward we see that today is the 155TH Saturday.
Looking forward we see that next Saturday, will be the last Saturday prior to three years. It is now 608 am on February 12Th 2011. As I reflect on the road I have traveled and as I approach the completion of this second year of daily workouts I realize that a pattern of behavior takes on a life of its own.

My schedule is a basic. I wake up around 4 am Monday through Friday. On Saturday its a 5
30 am time. Then, on Sunday I'm flexible with my waking hour. Usually its 7 am or a little later.

Monday through Friday I arrive at the gym usually before 5 am. Saturday around 7 am and Sunday between 8 am a to 930 am.

Burning anywhere between 1250 to 1450 calories per hour is what keeps this streak going.

The emotions, the challenges and the desires are all documented on this blog. This blog I started on June 8TH 2009. It was on Day 472 when I first posted. However, I took a few days from posting and returned to posting on June 16TH 2009. Then, I posted after a short break again on Day 477 the date was June 16TH 2009.

The daily postings began on June 20Th 2009 Day 484. Today, is 616Th consecutive day I have recorded a post! I not sure if anyone there has read every post. If there is I'd love to here from you.

It has been suggested that this blog should be made in to a book. I agree, I believe by sure size it would interesting and I would imagine original.

Well now we get to add some more information to the blog as I get set to burn 1400+++ calories in an hour----

I love it when I do what I said I was going to do!
At 703 am I got on the arc trainer at 808 am I got off. Between that time I burned 1522 calories. In the first sixty minutes I burned 1440 calories. I burned 721 in the first thirty minutes and 719 in the next thirty minutes.

It is just some much fun to be at the pace. Sometimes you feel like you are in control of some powerful that needs to be controlled in such a way that it maintains its beautiful pace. You to know when to accelerate and then let up and then accelerate it again. It is an awesome feeling.

Tomorrow will be day 1087 in an effort to beat today we need to burn 1440++ calories in the hour.I felt great today. As within 24 hours I went up and down 8 steps on a ladder about 70 times and burned 1522 calories while using the arc trainer.

I feel awesome and I'm psyched for Day 1087!

Day 1085 After standing outside yesterday for some 2 and half hours .....

I am not ready to say the winter is waving the white towel. However, since the storm belt has slowed maybe, just maybe, there is a visible chink of daylight. As I sit here, nourishing myself with a hot bowl of oatmeal that includes cinnamon, blue berries and banana. I cannot help but think about this morning's workout. I must say washing all this nutrition down with a nice cold glass of orange juice mixed with seltzer is an awesome way to start the day.

Let everyone who is on vacation in some exotic island eat there heart because I am here in the dead of winter still feeling the glow from a fun 1400 an hour calorie burn workout. A sixty minute ride to glory where in the last 30 minutes I was able to burn 20 more calories than I did in the first 30 minutes.

The euphoria I get from these workouts is amazing. When your body is conditioned to push through whatever, your body reaches a threshold, that I have yet to come up with words for.

So will just leave it at that. The question is would I like to do it again tomorrow? That answer is of course. A good analogy is will there be a second date? If the answer is yes that maybe it could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

Next date, is day 1086 and I'm psyched and focused on breaking 1400+ per hour.

Day 1084 I think, the winter has blinked

What does that mean?It means that there may be a break coming from this relentless stream of cold weather and constant snow storms. How has this stream of frigid air affected my work outs? Not much but it has effected my recovery. by recovery I am referring directly to my weight. I have felt so cold and beat down at times at night where in effort to seek a break I have eaten more than I really wanted to. The good news is I have eaten nothing but healthy stuff. The usually fruits vegetables and whole grains. The bad news it is more than I usually do.

As I gander back to last year at this time I was burning less calories and I weighed about the same. So, thank God for keeping records.

Today, I blinked, and I missed out on burning 1400 calories in an hour. When I burned only 1391 calories I left myself short by only 9 calories. Just one less pause and I would have had it!

I really love the competitiveness and the challenge. It is those attributes that keep me coming back for more!

Tomorrow will be Friday February 11TH 2011. DAY 1085. Right now as of today I have done 1098 workouts in the last 1084 days. When I reach Day 1096 I will have worked out three straight years everyday a work out and I will have averaged more than one work out a day.

But first, but first! Day 1085 needs to done. I am ready for the challenge.

Day 1083- This was a record setting day!

That has a nice ring to it.It was indeed a record setting day. I cannot recall any time since I started to workout at around 5 am that I have burned that many calories in an hour. When I burned my 1416Th calorie in the hour I set a record for most calories burned per hour before 6 am.

I jumped on the machine at 456 am and burned 715 calories in the first 30 minutes. I had a terrific pace and felt awesome. Especially, when you consider it was within the first hour of me rising.

It is always a fun mad scramble to get out the door on these frigid winter mornings. There is no sign of the sun. Darkness is all around as I get in to my workout gear and grab my gym bag filled with clothes and towels and head out the door. First, I warm up the car , after it warms with me inside I go outside and off I go. Full of expectation of an awesome work out. Forever curious about what I will have today.

Well, today I had a lot and I gave it. When the sixty minutes were up I felt about as awake as anyone could in the morning with temperature outside hovering at around 20 degrees.

Day 1084 leaves us a dozen days short of the start of the third year!

I'm indeed pumped for that!

Day 1082-Just show up and FIGHT!

That is not as combative as it sounds. In fact, I am not even talking to you.I am talking to myself
.I am also asking myself a question. The question is will you show up and fight? There is a classic line from the movie "The Caine Mutiny". Where one of the characters says, "I didn't think you had the guts to show up."The character replies, "I didn't have the guts not to show up."

The concept of showing up when it comes to working out mentally is a given. The concept of showing up and fighting is the challenge. When the character says I didn't have the guts not to show up he means in his heart he had to be there. He could not escape himself if he did not show up. My view is from a higher perch I see it as you not only have to show up you also have to show up and fight.I do not want to fight with anyone I just want to do my best and give maximum effort.

Today, despite the amount of calories I burned I did just that, I showed up and fought for every calorie I burned in the sixty minutes.Burning 1349 in sixty is a far cry from yesterday's total of burning 1402.

As the rain pours down and the air is not cold enough to snow, we head toward three years. With a total of 14 days to go!

But first Day 1083 ....awaits....

Day 1081 Interesting.. During wartime there ARE no days off

Exercising a sober thought and remembrance to my Dad.

Dear Dad,
I miss you, and I think I speak for any American who appreciates their freedom when I say thank you for the time you served in the army to help keep our country free. You have probably taught me more about myself as I have gotten older than when I was younger. I personally thank you for that.
As you are aware, I have been working out everyday for the last 1081 days. How long were you actually in the service? I would guess 50 months? Which is a little over four years.I suppose there was no days off for those 50 months.

Well, as of now, I have served 35 and half months.I will dedicate the next 15 months to you.

May God bless you, Dad.

Day 1082 awaits....

Day 1080 - Ten eighty

A nice compact number as we start the drive to three. Three years that is. I just realized that from February 23, 2008 to February 23,2011 is not 1095 days. Why? Isn't there 365 days in a year? Answer, not always. What happens when there is a leap year? Answer, we add a day to the year. Well in 2008, we did just that. We added a day to the year and so instead of the time span in number days being 1095, it is now 1096. Also, for the sake of quantifying the total span of time I will have actually worked out every day for three years, we have to use February 23,2008 as the start date and use February 22, 2011 as the completion date.

Truth is, February 23, 2011 is the start of a new year. That new year would put us in our third year.

So to clarify. On Day 1096, it will be three years for this glorious streak to have reached the ripe old age of three years. I have done to this point 1093 workouts in the last 1079 days.

The lexicon of "workout" is described many times on this blog. A workout is when I do a cardiovascular workout I do continually for sixty minutes.

So I am off to see the wizard. The wonderful wizard of workout.
Yesterday, due to the forecast I decided to take the day off for the first time in a long while. Coupled with today's planned day off because of SUPER BOWL SUNDAY, I will take two days in a row off from work for the first time since who knows when?

A strange feeling it certainly is to take a weekend off from work.

Anyway, I burned 1434 calories in the hour yesterday. Today's hour goal is to burn 1435++++

What a start! I burned 738 calories in the first 30 minutes. And 859 in 35 minutes. Then I am not sure what happen in the last 25 minutes. I totaled a 1429 calorie burn in the hour. Which is phenomenal. Although, I only burned 570 calories in last 25 minutes. It was pretty awesome burning 122.7 calories per five minutes. The pace was blistering I was on pace to burn 1472.57 calories in an hour. However, as much as I prefer to admit it, I was unable to keep that awesome pace. My competitive nature makes me have to ask the question why did I fall off that awesome pace?

So, the question now is..... How did I get on a such an awesome pace to begin with?

Simple attitude and energy. Bingo! That explains why I did get off the pace. My energy sagged - easy fatigue makes cowards out us all. As we know a coward is an individual that lacks courage.

And like dominoes once the energy fades it is very difficult to keep that pace.Especially, when the attitude drops through the fatigue.

Now on less rest we approach Day 1081 and psyched to conquer the day!

We have a sweet sixteen days to go to reach the big three.

Day 1079 The Saturdays are mounting

Here we are poised for another Saturday workout and only 16 days from three years. Three years of doing a daily sixty minute cardiovascular workout. That means I get my body to do one thing for sixty consecutive minutes. The dictionary or other sources define a cardiovascular workout as... a way to improve your heart.

Well, what I have been doing everyday for the last 1079 is pretty much that. I have been working on improve my heart muscle. It is now 620 am EST and the gym doors open around 7 am. The weather outside is 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The grounds are cover with snow. The snow is everywhere, we are no different than any ski resort you have ever seen. Our difference lies in the amount of houses there are.

Tomorrow is set to be my first planned day off since January 11TH. Which was Day 1054. Day 1054 was 25 days ago from today. So, at the completion of today I will have worked or planned on working 25 consecutive days. Working that many days is not hard to do when you have a full-time job and a part-time job.
It is time to warm up the car and get 1079 underway.--

1412++++ is the target calories to burn in the hour.....

Blew it UP! Burned 1434 calories in an hour. My pace was electric! Started with a 709 in the first thirty minutes and got stronger as the workout went on! I burned 725 in second thirty minutes. That is an average of 1450 per hour. I just hit my stride and kept it there. There is no better feeling then being in the flow.

Even after I was done I still felt fresh. I stretch and cruised on out of there feeling like I just climbed Mount Everest. Which reminds me how would anyone really feel after climbing Mount Everest? No really how would one feel after climbing one of the tallest peaks in the world. I guess a tremendous feeling of accomplishment. No doubt the journey was incredibly difficult and the individual no doubt had to pay a nasty price for his or her achievement.

So be it. May God bless all of this fifth day of February 20--snow 11.

They called Alaska Seward's Ice Box. After all this snow and ice I am beginning to understand why. We can call where I live now "the ice box."

We look towards Day 1080 and focus in a 1440 to cap off the week!

Day 1078 There is a challenge everyday

We are always challenged. Some just consider it being annoyed. I think there are always two ways to look at any situation. The challenge is to decide how we choose to look at things. Something as an annoyance is truly determined by the individual. Is it an annoyance or a challenge? It simply is our choice.

Today, posed the second challenge in the last two days.Yesterday, was getting stuck in the snow on the way to workout . As for today, it was a simple car ignition problem. The car needed to be rushed to the shop.

But none the less, the workout went on. I had an awesome 1411 calorie burn in an hour where I was blessed with that delicious feeling of burning more in the second thirty minutes than the first. The day that would be so cool will be the day when my calorie burn per hour will be the same number as days the of of the streak.

Wow, it sounds a little way off . But, awhile back I thought this day was a long way off.

Well friends, today is a cancelled check and tomorrow is a promissory note.

I am pumped for Day 1079.

Day 1077 The pm post

Despite some car detainment I managed to get to the gym and enjoy a good 1404 calorie burn in the hour.So as is my habit after the workout I sit with a cup of oatmeal and blueberries and cinnamon and post away. Well, today I had to delay my posting until now . It is now 730 pm some twelve hours later than I normally post.

I still have some of the glow from the workout this morning.Of course, I have a little more glow from just working 8 hours at my daily toil.

This morning, I started with a burn of 695 after 30 minutes and then burned 709 in the second thirty. As has been said many times it is an awesome feeling when you finish stronger than when you started.

Now, we are real close to 1078 and I am psyched to attack Day 1078--

Day 1076 Freezing rain poses a good challenge

Here I am having called the gym at 420 am and at 430 am, I let it ring for two minutes and both times found no answer. So, it seems the gym did not answer the bell for a usual 430 am opening. Now , we crank up the life cycle at home and do a workout.

From 448 to 648 I rode the life cycle. Truth be known it was not as good as a normal workout.
Put it in the books, day 1076 ice storm was enough to stop another workout on the arc trainer.

I am in process of deciding on a later workout today. So basically the floor is still open.

Day 1077 promises bright sunshine......

Day 1075 We are so excited we can't stand it!

Started the month with a strong effort the euphoria was sweet. I burned more in the second thirty than the first thirty minutes. When I burn more in the second half I always get a rosy glow. There is just something really great about finishing strong.Despite the light snow today February 1st was relatively easy. I got plenty of rest and I woke up refreshed.

I started with a lot of energy and just kept on increasing it,as I burned 1393 calories in the hour.At around 5 am, a series of odd thoughts hit me. One, I said to myself how many other people at 5am EST have broken a sweat from their exercise? Two, how many people have broken a sweat 50 minutes after waking up. Then the other thought was, how many people at 5 am EST are still snug in their beds?

Either way May God Bless everyone. It was a sensational feeling and I wish I could have shared it with everyone. If some one asks you how are you doing you say----

Better than good and better than most!
Hope you all blast through the snow and be careful. To quote the Godfather "Woman and children can be careless but men, must be careful.

The spirit of 76 is forth coming I am psyched for day 1076....
