Day 709- This is getting to be FUN!

Today I burned 1,228 calories in 60 minutes. Can I get an AMEN?I honestly cannot figure out what is harder to do burn 1013 on the life cycle or burn 1228 on the arc trainer. Either one is such a rush!

In spite of the aches and pains I showed up to fight!

Today I felt a little like Matisse. Now from what I know about Matisse is limited only to this story. And this is a real short story about the famous artist- Matisse.

When Matisse was an older man he suffered from severe arthritis and every step was painful. His hands were curled up and his body was hunched over. Yet, Matisse ambled slowly to the piano bench every morning and began to stroke the keys of the piano board. With every stroke his body seemed to loosen up until beautiful music began to come out of the piano. Matisse's energy started to come alive and his vigor increased and he became a changed person.

Within a few minutes he would be at the aisle painting and creating wonderful drawings. Question, how did Matisse change himself from a virtual cripple to this vigorous dynamic painter?

My answer, he did what he loved. I love to workout, what about YOU?

Day 708- Awesome burned 1,180 calories in 60 minutes

Now that is a headliner! It was so awesome I was bummed out that it was over. What a rush. That was day three of the arctrainer. I have increased my calorie burn everyday for three straight days. I am finding that the AT is an interesting way to burn off calories. I feel my life cycle training was good preparation to use the AT. I noticed my cardio is nice and easy on the AT. I am using a quick start program that is all manual. On the lifecycle I used a random program.

Out of the three days I have done the arctrainer this is the first one where I really felt like I exerted myself. The sweat on the floor was good evidence to that. Oh what a feeling. I had a good flow going.

In the last two days I have been sore for the first time in probably about 100 or more days. I feel the reason for soreness in my muscles is because I am using different muscles on the workout. I welcome the pain! It is refreshing, to know I am working and developing a different muscle group.

My appetite has been a little higher than I would like but I am staying clear of any foods other than fruits, vegetables, whole grains and soy. Who knows maybe on Day 705 we turned the page on the life cycle. For now, the arctrainer seems to be the machine of choice.

Day 709 is around the corner.....

Day 707- It is rather chilly out this morning: BURR!

I am psyched to attack the arc trainer. We need to see if we can beat yesterday's 1050 calories burned in sixty minutes. Perhaps the time is right to try some different equipment. My streak of 707 days will be tested today. I am excited to use the arc trainer for sixty minutes or more today.

Second day in a row on arc trainer this time burned 1070 in 60 minutes. Which is 20 more calories than yesterday. I put the resistance on level 90 and felt awesome. It is strange when I am done I feel like I have worked some different muscles.

Long live the life cycle but let us give this arc trainer a shot.

Seven days to tie the Babe's home run mark. Seven fourteen BABE Y!

Day 706- It is a classic day to study the options

It all comes down to the three choices: Stay in; go out unprotected or go out protected. I choose the latter. Heading towards the gym in bad weather- Here goes!

Well, we feel great after the workout. Decided to try a different cardio vascular workout. My choice was the Cybex International Arc Trainer.

As we see from the photo above that the machine of choice is a bit different than the life cycle. I was a little apprehensive about using it today but once I got going into a flow I felt great!
According to the dashboard readout on the arctrainer I burned 1050 calories in an hour. Now, if you have been reading this blog on a daily basis you will know My record for most calories burned is 1013 calories. So shsam! On the first day of the AT( arctrainer I burned 1,050 calories in 60 minutes.

I was pumped felt great did a good ab workout 15 minutes in the plank position also did 600 crunches.

I will see how my body feels tomorrow and I do look forward to another hour or so on the AT ( arctrainer )

Day 705- Do you want to win?

Those are powerful words. They are powerful words for several reasons. The first reason is your answer. The second is what you do after your answer. The third reason why I believe those are powerful words is the followup question. Which is .... How bad do you WANT to win?

Most people start a workout program with the intent to lose weight and feel better. Their primary goals are challenged by two things time and distraction. The effort to lose weight and feel better is (let's be honest) over matched by those two challenges time and distraction.

I know this my seem like a simple diagnosis to a complicated problem but I feel that these challenges play a major role in where workout programs go.

I consider myself extremely fortunate have not been defeated by those two challenges( time & distraction).

They say most new business fail in the first year and most new business are out of business in the first 5 years. What about workout programs? When I refer to workout programs my thought is a real simple answer to this question-How often do you workout?

Depending your reasons I would venture to say most people think a good start to a workout program would be a three times a week. According to the attendance at many health clubs, the days of Monday, Wednesday and Friday are the most populated days. All those days are good days to workout. I found one thing that makes a huge difference in whether or not someone stays on the path or goes off the path. The huge difference is desire it is comes back to the original question do you want to win?

Some say it is not competition so what do I have to want to win? I have a philosophy for that if you are breathing you in competition. The competition does not come from another person it comes from you. Inside you want to keep on breathing as opposed to not breathing. We all want to stay alive! We all want to have some sort of enjoyment while we are alive. Our enjoyment comes in various ways from various sources. I feel there are avenues of enjoyment. It is through these avenues that we derive enjoyment. So if you agree 1) our body 2) our ego 3) our soul. What gives us the most pleasure? I do not know. I think that depends on the individual. The old saying goes you are nothing without your health. Our ego feeds how we feel about how we look. So if you think you look good you can enjoy that. Our soul well that is a another matter but let us just say let your conscience be your guide.

As people go on with their day it will be what matters most to them that will honestly determine what they do. I have chosen to workout for the 710 time in the last 705 days. Mainly because I love it. Today I burned only 900 calories. I say only because I thought I could do more. Tomorrow is only a day away!

Day 706= 711Th workout of the last 706 days-
Where were you on Saturday February 23rd 2008?

Day 704- When we chase perfection we can catch other things first

What a strong positive statement! Chasing perfection. Then having the drive to visualize the chase. I once heard an expression that I always thought was similar to the previous statement. In hot pursuit. We sometimes hear that expression in a negative way. "The police officer is in hot pursuit of a suspect." What if a person is in hot pursuit of a goal. A worthy goal, one that inspires us and gives us a strong desire to achieve it.

It is a challenge just to have a challenge. To decide I will attempt this endeavour and I will attempt it as if I was in hot pursuit of succeeding. When I was given an analogy of what exactly was meant by the phrase in hot pursuit. I was told pretend you are late for work and you cannot find your car keys. Tell me, would you then be in hot pursuit of finding those keys? Without those keys you are not able to start the car and if you cannot start the car you can not get to work at all, much less arrive on time. So, it is extremely important that you achieve your goal of finding those car keys.

What if we used the same sense of urgency to reach the goals we set as we did for finding lost car keys? What if we chased perfection with the same sense of urgency? Back to the original statement- When we chase perfection we can catch other things first- like greatness, skillfulness confidence, determination, a strong will, perseverance, dedication, strength... I think we can go on an on.

The concept is simple, if you want to be perfect, study perfection and you will find it has many prerequisites!

Day 704 - I am in hot pursuit! Let us see how well I will do hunting down perfection.

I pushed myself about as hard as I could push today. Like I always say what good is a workout if while doing the workout you don't feel like you are about to die? Well, I must admit I had a good 2 or 3 strong efforts where I wondered what was left. I was seriously determined to burn at least 900 calories in an hour. You can say I was in HOT PURSUIT of hitting that number. I feel the biggest challenge came from the fact that I was perhaps a little over dressed. Today was a good 10 degrees warmer than it has been. I am psyched that I pursued my goal and hit it!

My abdominal workout could have been better but quite frankly I was a little spent. Which I feel is a good source of motivation for tomorrow!

Day 703- It was great to be back in the friendly confines

It was awesome to get back to my favorite life cycle. I set a great pace and I kept it. What can be better than that. Perhaps the rest I got helped pedal hard and maintain a great pace. My attitude is whenever I can burn 900 or more calories in 60 minutes while riding the life cycle a great workout. The result of a workout that qualifies as a great workout produces an awesome feeling. After burning 917 calories in 60 minutes My great feeling propelled me to a strong abdominal workout.

I was able to conclude my day's workout by doing 300 crunches and held the plank position for 13 straight minutes.

Tomorrow is Day 704 only 10 more days to tie Babe Ruth's home run total!

Day 702 - An elliptical machine workout

Great workout I was pumped! Got up early had a good supply of energy. I burned 800 plus calories on the elliptical machine in a good 80 minutes. So, I worked a different muscle group. I found that I could burn more calories by using just my legs. I found the process of using both legs and arms that for some reason I could not move as fast as I would have liked to. I missed not doing abdominal exercises and stretching.

I felt great and I am determined to get back to my regular workouts on the gym I have been using on a regular basis.

Day 701-the challenge was how to make a workout work

I went into the fitness center and discovered there was an incomplete life cycle. Where as the computer and digital read out was missing. So that gave me a few options. As I said probably about 100 days ago life is all about options and it comes down to simple options as pointed out by our friend the philosopher Renee DesCarte. When it rains we have three choices: Staying dry and avoiding the challenge, going out and getting wet and taking the the challenge or going outside with an umbrella and attempting to stay dry while taking the challenge.

In my case on Day 701 my options were as simple as all that. I had a treadmill, an elliptical machine and a broken life cycle. I could choose to say, "oh well I have no life cycle I will just pack it in. " Instead I decided to ride the life cycle and shadow box. I rode the life cycle for fifty minutes while shadow boxing. When I was about to conclude my last ten minutes of the workout I decided that I had not burned enough calories. I figured I had to workout more and harder. I decided to try the elliptical machine and see if I could burn another 500 or more calories. I was determined to ride for another 40 minutes to see if I could burn the 500 calories.

My skill on the elliptical was not as good as on the life cycle but I did burn 510 calories in about 40 minutes- I felt good so I knew I had done enough. Not bad for an ad hock workout.

Day 702 was on the horizon.

Day 700- It has been one heck of a ride! Celebrate good times, Come On!

I still feel great! It was awesome going into the gym at 5am(as advertised) in the dark and coming out of the gym at 6:15am in the dark. It was a sensational feeling knowing at 6:15 I had already kept the streak alive.

Everyday I workout and I do mean everyday I do workout I feel as though a little battle has been won. Steven Covey the (author of several books) author of seven habits says we all need our private victories. In the past 700 days I have actually enjoyed 705 private victories. How sweet is that? That is a shade more than one a day. If you include all the abdominal workouts which were on average 5 to 6 a week and multiply it times the number of weeks which is 100 it adds up to an extra 500 to 600 private victories.

A private victory to me is when you win but only you know what you won. Only you know what you had to sacrifice to get that victory. It has been said In the good times you put it in your pocket. Ah but in the lean times you put it in your heart- Can I get an AMEN?

The same for working out on the good days you just sail right through but in the days where the workout is a little more challenging you just stow it in your heart because you know what it took to get the workout done with maximum effort.

One of the signs at the gym says judgement free zone. Heck, what does that mean you are free to judge anyone? No, actually it means the opposite it really means no one will judge you. So, you are free to do your best.

I did my best today after a 16 hour break from my last ride I managed to burn 830 calories in an hour. Not a great burn but a truly exhilarating one!

Tomorrow I will attempt another workout only this time in a different gym.

Day 701 beckons- It says come get me .... if you can!

Day 699-We are approaching the milestone

The challenge is right there in front of us. The big 700! Tomorrow I will be getting up very early to nail down 700. As I thought of this number(700) I came to understand that it is a a number that is worth fighting for. It is not a number to be taken lightly. Since I need to rise early to accomplish this feat this number will come with a great effort. As a football coach once asked his players before a big game"where else would you want to be?"

So, I am looking ahead a little on Day 699. I am excited at what lies beyond today this day.
I once gave a friend this compliment-

You motivated me and the reason why I say that is:
1- you improved my discipline
2-you sharpened my focus
3- you strengthened my determination

(This also explains how I was motivated.
here is the net out-)
You did this by just being yourself- back when I started talking to you and realized you had a positive attitude. I started asking you positive thinking question's then I started thinking positive again! That got my to realize, I had to improve as a person. So, I started working harder to get in the best shape I can. Now the results are obvious, I put together a streak of workout days, I feel great and have an awesome positive attitude toward the future. I would like to think I did a lot of this on my own but, you gave me a lot of the motivation by just being you- thanks again. your awesome!

You see folks, this is the mental decision I made at the start of the streak. Which is nothing different than anyone else could do. Just make a decision to start working out on a consistent basis. Who knows maybe you will start working out everyday.

I started strong felt great, slowed and finished with a small kick. I wanted do more but did enough-= burned 870 calories in 60 minutes.

Ah tomorrow, I have an early tee time -see you on the green at 5 am!

Day 698- A mild day with plenty of sunshine

As Vince Lombardi was fond of saying " Gentlemen, now we start the big push". Okay, Vince we are on, only two days to hit 700. When I think of the number 700 I cannot help to think about all the other hundreds like 100,200,300, 400, 500, and 600. What were the dates? I know off the top that June 1st 2008 was day 100 and I burned 800 or something calories. However the hundreds I am not sure. On day 200 September 9Th 2008 burned 939. Here is a look at day 300 December 18Th 2008 burned 949 calories in 60 minutes. While we are at it, here is day 400 March 28Th 2009 burned 928 calories in 60 minutes. Day 500- July 6Th 2009 burned 948 in 60 minutes. Day 600- October 14Th 2009 burned 906 calories.

There we have a brief history of the first six one hundred days of this streak that is about to reach 700 straight days. It will take a good effort on my part to get the next few days in the books but heck I am as excited as all heck to do it. Hey, what the heck! Who is this heck guy anyway?

Day 698 here we come---

It is is always a wonderful feeling when a workout is concluded. And it is always a better feeling when a goal that has been set is met. A sensational feeling came over me when I got off to an awesome start of my ride today. As I began with a good stride of burning 168 calories in the first ten minutes. My strength grew as I burned 334 calories in the first twenty minutes. After the first twenty minutes I realized I was on pace for that elusive calorie burn of 1,000 per hour. Since I have only burned 1,000 plus per hour five times in 703 attempts. Elusive great word-

Day 697- How does the sound of the sound sound?

Wrap your mind around that for a second or two. We all interpret the sounds we hear differently. So now we have all risen to a sound in our heads or externally and so we begin our march through the day. We must see our day before we can seize our day. Challenging and succeeding at seeing an awesome day is one way to insure we experience one.

Today is a gift, that is why we call it the present. The sound the arose us from our sleep is a calling to be rejuvenated and move towards OUR day. The bible says, " today is the lord's day let us be glad and rejoice in it". Yes, it is the Lord's day and he has given it to us. As we accept this day with gratitude and humility let us move forward with love in our hearts and a vision of a bright future. Can I get an AMEN?

Today I get to the gym at around 8 am filled with promise.....

We do the best we can because all you can do is ... all you can do.

The challenge was awesome today! I found out early that it was going to be a pure battle of endurance. I maintained the fight all the way to the 47 minute mark. Then in all honesty, fatigue set in. Boo, fatigue. I boo fatigue because it is fatigue that makes cowards of us all!

To rewind and set the scene for today's challenge let us return to the spot at which I started. In gym by 8:15am felt a little tight in the legs. Started pedaling hard and kept the pace. When I reached the 30 minute mark I was at a respectable 461 calories burned. Granted, that is a lot less than yesterday's calorie burn of 513 but, hey I was going as strong as I could do. I really felt great I saw a clear shot to break 900 calories burned in the 60 minutes. The window was open but the question was could I go through? I fought the pedals real hard at the 47 to 48 minute slot but, I actually slowed down. Folks that is a bummer.

I love the workout and when you feel your goal slipping away it creates an empty feeling inside.
But it is that empty feeling that keeps you coming back for more.

So I finished with a burn of less than 900 today(892). So what? I am coming back tomorrow to beat that number!

All you can do .......................is all you can do! But, all you can do enough-

Thank you followers!

Special shout out! I want to thank everyone that is currently following this blog.Having followers enriches the wonderful journey, thanks again. My goal is for you to start your own workout blog. When you start your workout blog I can follow you!

Day 696- When you feel loose just let it rip!

Today, I felt great! I had a nice solid 7 hours of sleep. Did something I normally do not do I actually warmed up on a lifecycle before I did my hour's ride. Man, what difference! I came out like I was after someone who just stole my wallet. I burned 176 calories in the first ten minutes. That is warp speed when it is compared to what I did the last two days. On Saturday I burned 140 calories in the first ten minutes. On Sunday I burned 148 in the first ten minutes. Why the difference? It must be attitude and feeling real good.

I am always amazed at the process I go through when I start pedaling. First I feel a challenge in my breathing and my legs feel a little tight. Then as I continue to pedal I challenge myself to pedal harder then my breathing gets easier. As I increase the speed of my pedaling my breathing becomes less of a challenge. It is then, that I challenge myself to pedal even harder because I know there is another more challenging threshold I can cross. When I start to feel this easiness of both breathing and pedaling the game begins.

The game is real simple, can I burn more calories in 60 minutes than I ever have before? Despite my overall state and mental capacity I know the number, burning 1,013 calories in one hour of pedaling. I also know that I am not always going to win every time. The purpose of the game is to keep the challenge fun and exciting. As I get into a flow I start looking for little victories I can claim as I attack the ultimate prize. I know the pace needed to win, burn x number of calories per minute. The x number is - 16.9.When I burn that amount of calories each minute for 60 minutes I win!

So, in the first ten minutes today I was ahead of the winning pace. Isn't that awesome? I was burning 17.6 calories a minute I was flying. It is funny when you are going at that pace you are not aware of much. You are not aware of the fact that you are breathing a little hard or that you are pedaling real hard. Nope, for all you know there might be a tornado going outside! When I am locked into a great flow of burning 17.6 calories a minute everything is tuned out. That is why I am amazed by the number of people that listen to music when they do their cardio workouts. My theory is they are not locked into the challenge enough. Now please do not misunderstand me, I am sure the music inspires them to work out harder and makes the task of working out more enjoyable. However for me, I just love the process and do not feel the need to enhance the workout any more than it is now. The challenge is all I need.

As I kept the pace through the first ten minutes going, I realized I had a good chance of burning over a 1,000 calories in an hour. While I was in between the 10 and 20 minute mark I said to myself I need to burn 350 calories in 20 minutes. Although I burned 345 I was still ahead of the pace needed to burn over 1,000 calories in an hour. After I burned 345 calories in the first 20 minutes my calorie burning pace was 17.25 calories per minute. If you multiply 17.25 times 60 minutes that equals 1,035 calories burned in an hour. Now that I am sitting here typing I realize I burned 168 calories in the next 10 minutes . So, after 30 minutes I had burned 513. Quick math tells us that 513 times 2 equals 1026 calories. I was still winning.

Hear this, I wanted to win. I felt like I would win. So why didn't I win? Simple because in the next 30 minutes I only burned 442 calories. You see, their is a reason why in 701 attempts why I have burned 1,000 or more calories five times. Keep in mind the 701 attempts have now yielded 14 times where I have burned 500 or more calories in 30 minutes. My total for today was a calorie burn of 955 calories. Not bad, an increase of 82 more calories yesterday in the same amount of time!

Spent the next minutes of today's workout doing the plank for 17 minutes and 600 crunches.

In this post today I attempted for you the reader to get into my head as I challenge myself on this exciting daily journey I hope I have. Please feel free to leave whatever comments or feedback you care to write.Thank you -the madman on the lifecycle-

Day 695- High energy cures what ails you!

When energy is high, a lot of ailments seem secondary. It all comes down to energy, how much you do you have? What is the depth of your enthusiasm? What is it that is going to make you quit? When will you say, okay I have had enough? When will you become being sick of being sick and tired? When will you be sick and tired of being just that- sick and tired?

How much energy do you have? What do you do with the energy you have? Are you happy with the use of your energy? Why do you not have more energy? Do you wish you had more energy? If you had more energy what would you do with it?

If you lost 10 pounds would you feel better about yourself? What do you think are the reasons you think you would feel better about yourself?

What habits of eating and exercise are helping you today? What habits of eating and exercising are hurting you today?

If they are helping you, what are they and why are they helping you?
If they are hurting you, what are they and why are they hurting you?

I guess when you look at the two help and hurt side by side they say a lot. What is helping you? How is it helping you? What is hurting you? How is it hurting you?

If you just shrugged your shoulders and said I don't know. My reply would be well, don't you think you ought to find out?

I did two courageous workouts this weekend. I feel whenever you can do a workout in a)a 19 hour break b) 4 1/2 hours of sleep c) despite being on your feet for 14 straight hours the day before and do a stronger workout than you did the day before.
You have done 2 courageous workouts!

So chalk today up for courage, as I burned 873 calories in 60 glorious minutes!

Day 694- Just show up and fight!

I once heard from a great motivator that if you wanted to compete in America today you need to know what it takes to win. He said, "if you want to beat 50 % of all people be a person of integrity and show up everyday. If you want to beat 90 % of all people in America today, be a person who works hard, lives right and find something you believe in. His summary still rings in my ear;Work hard, live right and find something you will believe in and you will be in the top ten of people in whatever you do!

What about the other 10 %? He said, "that is a dog fight." By that he meant do whatever it takes in a moral ethical way. Show up early, do a little more, love it a little more and never quit.

Winner's win and loser's lose. Just keep on doing it until the job gets done.

Simple advice, for a time that screams out to be simplified!

Day 694 - A much earlier start. I feel good and I am anxious to get in the gym and do an awesome ride.Just as I said yesterday the steps.....

Step 1- get up at 5:30 am
Step 2 -be on the lifecycle by 7am
Step 3- ride the lifecycle as hard as I can for as long as I can!
Step 4 - be ready for work by 10am or so.

So far:
Step 1- done
Step 2 -as of 6:16am I am dressed, fed and ready to play( waiting for the gym to open).

Now, it is off to Steps 2,3 & 4!

Step 1- get up at 5:30 am
Step 2 -be on the lifecycle by 7am-got on at 7:05am
Step 3- ride the lifecycle as hard as I can for as long as I can!Did it!
Step 4 - be ready for work by 10am or so.(as of 9:23 am I'm almost ready to leave.

Ah, the weather has gotten much warmer. My ride today was ample. I did enough. I gave it all I had! I was happy with my effort. When you do two 60 minute workouts in 19 hours you can expect anything. Especially 4 1/2 hours of sleep. thank God the weather was warmer it makes it easier to get up.

Here is a great attitude question, no matter what the circumstances what do you enjoy saying more? I am done! Or I(we) won! I prefer I(we) won! I love to feel the sense of success. The sound of it or any part of it. It has been said success like fame is very fleeting it is gone in an instant.

I spoke about being in that top 10 % of what we do. How special that is. I believe we are probably all in the top 10 % of something we do. However, some of us do not realize that we are in that top ten of something. I believe finding that special something can make all the difference in the world. The difference of how a person feels about themselves.

I must confess that one of my reasons for writing this blog and spreading the word on physical fitness and working out is to see how many people are currently engaged in a streak of daily workouts. I am curious if I am in the top ten of people that have worked out for consecutive days. I their is an elite group of runners that have not missed a day of running for years and some decades. That has got to be the top ten percent of runners.

I think I am getting too wrapped- Today I burned 824 in 60 the end!

Day 693- It is a little warmer today

But ever so damp. Damp is a strange word if you think about what does it mean? I suppose it means moisture. It always seems to have a companion word cold. Yeah, it is cold and damp outside. It certainly does not sound pleasant. Damp represents at this moment a challenge to me to get myself to compete one more time. Damp means can I go there and give it my best one more time. Shall I cut through the dampness and capture day 693?

Everyone has some sort of gap to fill before they can move to the next step. I am reminded of a famous Chinese saying"the longest of journey's starts with a single step"- So starts this journey of the day -

I once gave a toast at a friend of mine's wedding it went like this- "May their love be like that of a baker's goods -fresh everyday"

Well, dear Lord may my love to workout be like that of a baker's goods -........

To quote Mick, in the movie Rocky II "what are we waiting for?"

The best start I ever had! I burned 173 calories in the 1st 10 minutes! Whoa, now that's a start. However, like all great starts there usually is a lull. After all six times 173 equals? One thousand and thirty eight calories burned in one hour. One thousand and thirty eight calories burned in one hour would shatter my best calorie burn in an hour by 25 calories.

I am not sure where I got this desire to know my numbers so well. I suppose it is a combination of many things that I enjoy. I enjoy exercise, sports, the numbers in sports, competition, setting a challenge, winning, attacking a challenge and I enjoy the absolute joy of meeting a challenge. I love victory!

After the first 10 minutes of the ride I did set a career best by doing two consecutive days of burning 500 or more calories back to back. Yesterday in the first 30 minutes I burned 514 calories. Today, I burned 502 calories in the first 30 minutes. Burning that many calories for me in a thirty minute span of time is exhilarating- I wish everyone could at least once stand in my shoes and feel the rush!

Tomorrow promises to be an awesome challenge.
Step 1- get up at 5:30 am
Step 2 -be on the lifecycle by 7am
Step 3- ride the lifecycle as hard as I can for as long as I can!
Step 4 - be ready for work by 10am or so.

Day 692- Will be boarding the lifecycle a little earlier today

We all want peace, we all want quality it is a dream I wish for all who read this. I feel as a we head into the smack dab middle of this January and while the year is still in it's infancy we might as well develop some strategies for attaining peace and quality.

Well folks, I can not think of any other way to attain peace but by understanding yourself and understanding that a great workout routine will get you peace and give you a sense of well being. As far as quality just feeling good and loose and limber is a God send. What is better than you feeling good about your body? I hope all have a great day today and may you find a way to start a great workout plan!

On to day 692!

Today, I felt awesome. The reason why I say that is my body felt limber, my head was clear and I considered myself lucky to be able to do something I love to do.

My first 30 minutes of the ride was a reflection of my mindset. To pin point the moment I knew what I had today I would say it was when I burned 18 calories during the 60 second interval of time between 2 minutes and 3 minutes. So, I knew I was ready. I burned 164 calories in the first 10 minutes. After the first 10 minutes I kept feeling stronger.By the time 20 minutes had passed I burned a total of 343 calories which is off the charts. Why is that off the charts? Because I burned 179 calories in 10 minutes. Hello? That is a pace of 17.9 calories per minute which if you multiply 17.9 times 60 minutes that is 1,074 which is a phenomenal amount of calories burned in an hour. With having burned 343 calories in the first 20 minutes I needed to burn 157 calories or more to burn 500 or more calories in an half an hour for the twelfth since I started this magical run. Understanding this got me pumped. I knew I could burn 157 calories in the next ten minutes. This is what makes the workout so much fun! Picture this, your body feels great you feel strong, you have a lot of momentum and your confidence that you can hit an exciting goal is high. Now, I ask, what can be better than that delicious feeling especially if you are a person that is competitive enough to workout for 60 minutes of cardio a day for 692 consecutive days?

I am so psyched that I hit my goal, my only disappointment was that I was unable to burn 521 calories in 30 minutes. Had I burned 521 calories in 30 minutes I would have set a personal record of burning calories in 30 minutes.

On day 408, I burned 520 calories in the first 30 minutes. So back on April 5, 2009 I only burned 6 more calories than I did today. As the workout continued I did slow down some and finished by burning 983 calories in 60 minutes. I felt fantastic and I was totally soaked in perspiration but, focused on staying in the plank position for 22 minutes. Which I did! Then i did 630 crunches.

Day 693 is in the horizon --

Day 691- Stimulus pause response

Pretty simple when you think about it. We all get stimulated. Don't you think? The dictionary defines stimulus as:
: something that rouses or incites to activity: as a : incentive b : stimulant 1 c : an agent (as an environmental change) that directly influences the activity of a living organism or one of its parts (as by exciting a sensory organ or evoking muscular contraction or glandular secretion)
For sake of this conversation I will say a stimulus is something that gets us to change our given state of mind. Which could be anything.
Okay? Now, what is a pause?
a temporary stop
2 a : a break in a verse b : a brief suspension of the voice to indicate the limits and relations of sentences and their parts
3 : temporary inaction especially as caused by uncertainty : hesitation
4 a : the sign denoting a fermata b : a mark (as a period or comma) used in writing or printing to indicate or correspond to a pause of voice
5 : a reason or cause for pausing (as to reconsider)
6 : a function of an electronic device that pauses a recording
I will go with a temporary stop.
To summarize, there will always be stimulus and there will always be a pause in the human being. No matter how fast or slow either of the two occur it will always be there. In fact, in any living thing the two are present.
How----------------ever! Only in humans do we have a choice of how we RESPOND.

So, if the stimulus is always there and the pause is always there - What about the response? The other living organisms have no choice they rely on instinct. We are different. We can choose what we want.

Every second of everyday we are given a choice of how we will respond to our stimulus-
Usually it is our ability to recognize that we have a pause and a choice that determines the effectiveness of our response.

To me that one thought is so powerful it is scary. To consider the life we have or will continue to have will be predicated on that simple concept is mind boggling.

Respond. the powerful response to a given situation is vital to our outcome. Here is where attitude plays a major factor. It has been said that life is 10 % of what happens and 90% of how you respond to it. Well, I will go one step further and say the response is the all but 1 % of what happens because in the end it will be the last thing we do.

As we get close to tackling day 691 I will gather myself up and focus on an effective response to the day's challenge. My challenge in this regard is exercise hard and eat good. The stimulus is how my body feels I must pause and then respond to that to determine my outcome . In an effect, , it is my responsibility that I am looking for?

As fate would have it my response today was solid. I felt great as I started off on my daily ride.
My attitude was simple pedal as hard I as I could when I felt loose enough to pedal hard. As a result of practicing a little patience, I managed to burn 162 calories in the first 10 minutes. It has been a few days since I was able to burn that many calories in a ten minute period. The last day I burned that much was when i burned 170 calories in the first ten minutes on Friday January 8th which was day 686. On that day I was able to burn 502 calories in the first 30 minutes . Prior to that day, I was only able to burn 500 or more calories in 30 minutes 10 times.
My numbers today were better than yesterday which is the fourth day in a row I have increased my calorie burn of the previous day.

Since Sunday I have increased my calories from(Saturday) 802 to(Sunday) 844 to ( Monday)876 to(Tuesday) 919 to today( Wednesday) where I burned 939 calories in 60 minutes.

I love it! Went ahead and did the plank position for 20 straight minutes. Did 625 crunches.
I feel great. My stimulus was having a somewhat lethargic feeling before the workout. I paused and thought of all my strengths and focused only on them and then responded with my strongest workout of the week.

I say, can I get an AMEN?

Day 690- Ten away from the big day!

Yesterday, I wish I felt stronger. Today I feel stronger. I am determined to break the calorie burn of yesterday. Yesterday, I burned 876 in 60 minutes. For about 30 minutes of my ride yesterday I did average a burn of 15 calories per minute. Today, I must focus on keeping a good flow.

Today, the pedal was fixed on my favorite life cycle.Hooray! With my favorite lifecycle under me I blasted for the first time since Day 686 where I burned 940 calories in 60 minutes. I gave a great effort and burned 919 calories in 60 minutes.

I started strong and maintained a good brisk pace all the way through. When I blasted out a 312 burn in the 1st 20 minutes. As a show of strength I kept the pace of a 15.6 calories burned per minute. As the ride continued I kept a solid pace. My calorie burn for the 60 minutes was 15.31 calories burned per minute.

My focus after I finished riding was to do a great plank workout. My plank effort was awesome I stayed in the plank position for 17 continuous minutes. I concluded my workout by doing 600 crunches.

Now we make the stretch run to get to 700 days. We are down to single digits in days.

Day 689- DCLXXXIX that is the number in roman numerals

Here is something I just realized at the start of 2010, I have begun a third calendar year of this streak. My streak of working out at least 60 minutes a day began February 23rd 2008. As I look back and check out all the other 89's that have rolled by I see the dates and have come to the realization of the three calendar years I have touched. Here is a look at the days that have ended with number 89 .
Day 89 May 21st 2008- I wrote "RODE WITH SHIRT SWEATSHIRT + SHORTS; 1ST 10 MIN @ 140 DID NOT SWEAT! FELT GREAT DID 876 IN 65 = 847+876 THIS YEAR'S MAX!"
I noticed one thing about my notes I was very concerned about the ability of my legs to hold up after days of continuous riding. It was almost like I was some explorer trying to find the edge of the earth.I was under the illusion that the earth was flat and sooner or later I would arrive at it's edge. For all that I knew at that time was that sooner or later I would hit the edge of days I could workout and then I would just break down one day and have to stop.

I suppose that thought process is very understandable and I have to assume that other people probably feel and felt the same way. But, here is what I found out. Although my legs at times felt a little stiff they responded after a 20 to 24 hour rest. In fact, they came bouncing back stronger than ever. As I look at my notes from the early days of this fantastic journey my apprehensions were unwarranted.

Day 189 August 29Th 2008-My notes;
"kept feeling hungry yesterday so i grazed all day - i feel the reason why was because i have done the circuit sun tues thurs thats 3 workouts in 5 days and the weather has been beautiful- I believe non aerobic exercise increases the appetite"- that is what I wrote
At this point in time I had been using weights in addition to just riding the lifecycle.

Day 289 December 7Th 2008-My notes;
"day 289- 895- 168 lbs xpress 8 min 3x15x15 Favre has been passed!!!"
I was very excited about passing Brett Favre's number for consecutive games started while being a quarterback for the Green Bay Packers

Second calendar year-

Day 389- March 17Th 2009- My notes;
day 24-year 2- 8 min w/o 250 x3 3x15x20 lbs 866-171 lbs
I was adding the days to the year to see how long I was able to keep the streak going after one year's time. I am not sure what 250 equals but I believe 8 minutes represents the number of consecutive minutes in the plank position.I believe the 250 is the number of crunches done. The number equals the number of times I did 250 crunches at one time. The number 866 was the number of calories I burned in 60 minutes. The number 171 is the weight I was at after the workout.

Day 489- June 25Th 2009-My notes;
day 489-929-179 10 minutes straight on plank/ does it clunking grinding battled
did a 475 4 1st 30 min finished w/ 454 oh yeah! felt good
Sounds like some sort of hard fought battle to get a victory.

Now here is a thought, is everyday of this streak a victory? In that case I have won 688 days plus an extra 5 days totalling 693 victories in a row!
Can I get an AMEN?

Day 589- October 3rd 2009- my notes;
day 589--862-182-pedal broke no abs&arms
Comparatively speaking not a lot going on that day however, did capture another victory.

Third calendar year

Day 689- January 11TH 2010- Let us go capture another victory!

Victory! Did a battling, grappling slug it out hard 876 calorie burn ride today. All sixty minutes of shear determination and effort went into the sixty minutes of victory. Sounds like I played 2 hours of rugby without a break.
Hey, sometimes you have to call it exactly how you feel. Of course at the conclusion of the sixty minutes I felt great. Now, I understand this, I felt awesome during the challenge.

Upon conclusion of the workout I did 500+ crunches and was able to maintain the plank position for 15 straight minutes.

Tomorrow is day 690 - How awesome is that ?

Day-688-Like painted kites those days and nights they went flying by

I was up early today as is my wont on the weekends. The challenge is there sleep less work and workout earlier in the morning. As I mentioned yesterday my rest between workouts is limited during Friday and Saturday. On Friday's I usually workout after 10 am. However, on Saturday I workout at 7 am. So since my rest period between workouts is less than 24 hours I am challenged to garner up the strength to do a good solid 60 minute ride. In addition, to the workout being done less than 24 hours apart. I usually get a little less sleep than I normally do.

All in all it is a challenge to see what kind of number I can get on the Saturday ride and the Sunday ride. This weekend I did 802 on Saturday and a 844 (today).

Here is a look at my Saturday and Sunday numbers in the last 2 months.

Jan 2nd & 3rd 879 & 919
Dec 26th &27th 862 & 851
Dec 19th & 20th 893 & 1008- Snow day
Dec 12 th & 13 th 889 & 832
Dec 5th & 6th 836 & 791

Day 687- It seems like the weekends is where I change this schedule

In the process of doing this daily reporting I am starting to detect a trend or a pattern. I have been getting up earlier on Saturday's than any other day of the week. Since my schedule right now is to work Friday,Saturday and Sunday my best times to workout out on Saturday and Sunday are in the early morning hours.

These time changes pose an interesting challenge. Getting myself to rise early on Saturday is one of them. Starting my workout on less rest is the other. Both make for a fun challenge. I want to have tons of energy when I do my workout at anytime because I find it extremely exhilarating to charge through the ride with strength and perseverance.

I will be ready mentally this fine cold morning to get loose and give it my all. My prayers are that God gives my the strength to get strong and be strong throughout the entire ride.

It is now 6:18 am I have been awake since 5:30 am and I went to sleep at 12:45 am.

Energy is the key Day 687 is calling......

Here is an epiphany: If I choose to workout two times within a 24 hour time frame then I have worked out two times in one day. Now, the question surfaces. How many times during this streak have I worked out twice a day? My guess is probably every Friday. But wait a second How times do I workout From midnight Sunday until Saturday at midnight. In other words, how many times do I workout in 168 hours? Therefore, there are times I workout twice in 24 hours and then other times I workout 2 twice 48 hours depite the fact that I worked out twice in 1 interval of 24 hours, I still only worked out twice in 48 hours. In that case I worked out only 1 time a day for a whole week.Because on some days I rest for 26 or 28 hours.

It seemed stranger when I thought about it before. Oh well....

Today's ride was the slowest in a while my legs were not cooperating. Maybe it was riding on short rest or not getting the accustomed sleep. None the less I only burned 802 calories in 60 minutes.

Tomorrow I hope to have more rest in between rides and maybe more sleep.

Day 686- I love this challenge

The snow has stopped falling. Time to get a good workout in and feel refreshed.

We blasted once again did burn 502 calories in the 1st 30 minutes - Burned 940 calories in 60 minutes. Went onto crunch for 1430 times, did plank for 22 minutes.

Felt super awesome ---------Everybody shout I love to workout!!!

Day 685- You've got A Friend

This post is dedicated to a Friend. In fact, today's workout is dedicated to a Friend. A very close Friend that I hope is and will continue to feel better. All my prayers are with him today for a speedy recovery. The Lord only gives us what he knows we can handle. May the Lord continue to bless him.

When I awoke this morning I thought of this song and the words hit me with enough force today that stirred me to a tear. If anyone out there has any Friends that are hurting today, perhaps you can relate to my emotions.

When you're down and troubled
and you need a helping hand
and nothing, oh nothing is going right,
close your eyes and think of me
and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest night.

I think that says enough.

Today we look at the challenge ahead. Yesterday, I started out fast . I have started out very fast for the last three days in a row. I believe my strength has come from my lack of hesitation. At the outset I have been trying to pedal as hard as I can for as long as I can -

A day of dedication awaits....

I have heard of dedications in the past. I understand Buster Douglass (the man who knocked out Mike Tyson) prior to that match dedicated that fight to his deceased Mother.

Well today's workout was dedicated to a Friend. Today was the 4th day in a row. Yes Virginia I have another streak going! Since Day 682 I have burned At least 480 calories in the first 30 minutes of my ride.Check it out:
monday-488
tuesday -516
wednesday- 513
thursday- 480

As said earlier I pedal as hard as I can for as long as I can. I gave me all in 60 minutes I burned 920 calories. After that I did 1,200 crunches and 20 minutes straight on the plank exercise position.
I felt great physically. Emotionally, I am feeling anxious about my Friend and I am pround and honored to have dedicated today's post and workout to him.

Day 684- We are climbing towards 700

Seven hundred days! Seven hundred consecutive days is a few weeks away. What a plateau with the good Lord willing. What can I say? I feel I have been truly blessed. It has got to be one of the more amazing journey's of my life.
I love thinking of things in percentages and right now I am 98 % of the way there! I am anxious to ride today because I know it will be a good challenge. Especially since my favorite life cycle is broken. I will have to choose a different one and be challenged to reach my calorie burn in an hour's time.
I am psyched to git after it!
Well, git after it I did! I almost set the record for the 1st 30 minutes. The record for the 1st 30 minutes is a 520 calorie burn. Today I did 513. I missed by only 8 measly burned calories. Heck, I was 98.6 % of the way there! Ouch, that hurts. Especially after I did set the record for calories burned in the 1st 15 minutes. In the 1st 15 minutes I burned 263 calories. Like I said the other day when I did 262 in 15 minutes. Multiply that times 4 and you get (263x4= 1,052) Whoosh, that is flying. That is a calorie burn of 17.53 a minute. Man, that is electrifying. The attitude was damn the torpedoes and let her rip! I started feeling mortal around the 20 minute mark when I had burned 345 calories. Now, burning 345 calories in 20 minutes is good it is a 17.25 calorie burn per minute. So, just to record the first 30 minutes of riding here is how I did today for the first 10 minutes 171 calories burned. Second 10 minute I burned 174 calories. The third 10 minutes I burned 168 calories. My next 20 minutes was no where near my first. I only burned 281 calories. What a drop. To quote Billy Joel - "Brenda and Eddie had had it all ready by the summer of 75!" Well, I suppose on this ride I had it already by the 30 minute mark. I tried to pick up the pieces and I did manage to burn a total of 945 calories in a 60 minute span of time which is very good. I went on to some serious crunches, 1100 in all and I did the plank for 16 straight minutes. I felt awesome -
My fast today was a long one. I had not eaten or drank a thing for 17 hours. I actually enjoy fasting I think it is a good way of clearing the mind. Of course once I start to eat I enjoy eating also.
As the workout concluded we took another step on a journey of effort and discovery.
Here is a thought; there is not and there never will be a test that measures the size of a person's heart. You cannot open a person to see whether or not they got what it takes to do what needs to be done. Best way to measure a person is to put them out there and see what they got.

Day 683-The will of the human spirit is at times indomitable

Take today for example....I had errands to run prior to my work out. So after I did all I determined to give maximum effort during the workout.
I came charging out of the gate. Yesterday I burned 172 in the first 10 minutes, today I burned 169. In the second 10 minutes today I burned 181 for a total of 350 calories burned in the first 20 minutes - Now, that is a freakin record. I have never burned that many calories in 20 minutes. Folks I did not slow down that much in the 3rd 10 minute interval. In the 3rd 10 minutes I burned 166 calories. For a whopping total of 516 calories burned in the 1st 30 minutes.
Can I get an AMEN? After burning that calories I knew I was on pace to burn 1,032 calories in an hour. Holy smokes! That is what they call in horse racing a break neck pace. To say the next thirty minutes were eventful would be an understatement. I felt great after the first thirty minutes. I set a goal of burning at least 450 calories in the final 30 minutes of the ride. I did not want a repeat performance of yesterday. Yesterday I started stronger than I did today only to fizzle out. I was determined to do way better today. In my mind and heart I knew I could burn 1,000 or more calories in the hour. In the minutes between 30 minutes and 40 minutes I burned 159 calories.
At that time I thought I was going to slow down and not make it. However, my thought did not stay with me long as I put out a great surge and burned 165 calories in the next 10 minutes. When I hit the 50 minute mark I had burned 840 calories. I said to myself all I need to do now is burn 16 calories a minute for the last 10 minutes and I will have burned 1,000 calories in an hour again!
Then calamity hit, the freakin pedal broke on the lifecycle. I was in such a state of will and determination that I quickly thought okay, what are my options? I looked to my right at the other lifecycle but it was occupied. I thought for a second of asking the person on it to get off but decided to jump off the broken life cycle and try pedal on a recumbent life cycle, but I quickly jumped off of that when I realized there was no way to gather enough speed on that type of ride. So I got to my next option, as fast I could. It was an unoccupied life cycle with a broken seat. I jumped on and started pedaling like crazy. I was full aware of my goal to burn 160 calories in the next 10 minutes. If I burned that amount I will have burned 1000 calories in an hour.

I did it, in fact I burned 166 calories in the 10 minutes. All totalled I burned 1,006 calories in 60 minutes. Can I get an AMEN?

I did this around noon and here it is almost seven pm and I am still all fired up about it!

Today goes up a list of big calorie burn days- Here is a look at the other times I burned at least 500 calories in 30 minutes or burned 1,000 or more calories in 60 minutes:

Day 324 Sunday January 11Th 2009=1003= special note in 2ND half did a 508! (508/495)
Day 399 Friday March 27 Th 2009= 1006 (508/498)
Day 408 Sunday April 5Th 2009 did 520 on the 1st 30 WOW! - then 1,013 (520/493)
Day 478 Sunday June 14Th 2009 did a 507 in 1st 30 minutes finished with a 927. (507/420)
Day 563 Monday September 7, 2009 did a 501 in 1st 30 minutes finished with a 958. (501/457)
Day 574 Friday September 18, 2009 did 502 in 1st 30 minutes finished with a 963. (502/461)
Day 667 Sunday December 20, 2009 did 511 in 1st 30 minutes finished with a 1008. (511/497)
Day 669 Tuesday December 22, 2009 did 507 in 1st 30 minutes finished with a 960. (507/453)
Day 683 Tuesday January 5, 2010 did 516 in the 1st 30 minutes finished with a 1,006. (516/490)

As I look at this I see that today was only the fifth time in 688 attempts to burn 1,000 or more calories in 60 minutes that I have accomplished that feat. I also noticed another challenge I have yet to meet. Can you could find it? I have yet to burn 500 or more calories in each of the two thirty minute intervals!

As I said at the top: The will of the human spirit is at times indomitable.
Perhaps, sometime soon I can muster up enough human spirit to burn 500 or more calories in 30 intervals, back to back!

Day 682- It is where we put our mind that determines where we are

Sounds simple. Sounds obvious. The truth according to my understanding of how attitudes are shaped is that whatever we think about and how we feel about what we think about determines are attitude for that moment. Usually how long we hold that thought or feeling determines how long we will have the attitude we have. A great example is having a great time and enjoying someone else's company and doing fun things with that person or even enjoying the company of a group of people. Your natural attitude towards that individual or group will be good since you have experienced positive happy thoughts by being in that situation. Also, you will hold those positive good attitudes towards that experience the next time you will contact that group or individual. Of course the opposite is true if you should experience a negative experience with an individual or group. Our attitudes are driven by what we think about and most importantly by how we feel about what we think about.

When I feel good about a thought I tend to repeatedly think about it. Our mind is powerful. We all feel differently about our thoughts so, when someone comes by and pushes our buttons we need to be aware that our button's are being pushed so we can choose the appropriate response that will keep our attitude's positive-

NEAT STUFF HUH?

Today was probably the most diversified rides I have ever had. My speed of pedaling was extreme! I started at a pace I have never done before. For some crazy reason I was a pedaling like a person shot out of a cannon. (Laugh out loud, imagine a person shot out of a cannon). I burned 172 calories in the first 10 minutes that is a freakin record! then in the first 15 minutes I set another record. I burned 262 calories. That is wild at that pace 262x4= 1,048 in an hour. My record for most calories burned in an hour is 1,013. At the pace I was at I would have shattered the record. However like I said this was a very diversified ride. I did get the streak to 3 consecutive 30 minute intervals of burning 450 or more calories. Because I in the first 30 minutes I burned 488 calories. A disappointment after such an awesome start. At 20 minutes I had burned 340 calories which is an awesome pace ( 340x3=1020 an hour) I was still on track to set the record. In the third ten minutes I dropped my pace considerably. Check this out in the 1st 10 minutes I averaged a burn of 17 .2 calories per minute.
2ND 10 minutes I averaged a burn of 16.8 calories per minute
3rd 10 minutes I averaged a burn of 14.8 calories per minute
Total burn of 488 calories in the 1st 30 minutes.
In the second 30 minutes what a contrast- I managed to burn only 416 calories.
The drop was big and fast.

But--- it was fun and exciting!
Day 683 -- is coming

Sunday, January 3, 2010

day 681- Back to Sunday fun ride, on a frigid morning

Sunday's are good I take a nice car ride then a good life cycle ride. The weather outside is 20 degrees with a wind chill of 6 degrees. Yes, we are getting a good dose of winter right now! This is also week 17 of the NFL season that means the football regular season is over after today- WHEW that season went fast.

My streak of 11 thirty minutes intervals where I have burned 450 calories or more needs to be restarted! My opportunity is at hand I must seize it!

The streak has been restarted. Real simple burned 465 &454 that equals a 919. Translation; in the first 30 minutes of TODAY'S ride I burned 465 calories which starts a new streak. In the second 30 minutes of the ride I burned 454 calories which now sets the streak at 2 times in 30 minute intervals I have burned 450 or more calories.

The cherry on top of this effort was that I felt great while doing it! It still blows my mind how I could be pedaling and huffing and puffing and giving it my all while people around are exercising nice and easy. Some are reading a magazine or a book - I always ask my self what are these people getting out of the time the are spending here?

Day 682- Will be here before we know it!

Day 680-I am up, it is wonderful at 5:25 in the morning

The day greets us, or we greet the day? I suppose who says hello first. Some people say Good, God it is morning. Some people say good God, it is morning!.Can see the difference? In the second sentence it is clear the day has greeted the person and the person is not quite ready for the day. I the first sentence the person feels the day and sees the day and lovingly embraces it and says good it is the start of a new day. All said that is a very interesting contrast of emotions.

I feel if we reflect on it we can tell how we feel about the coming day. Are we excited about its prospects or are we initially looking for a delay in the start of the day. As I dwell on this thought I can not help but turn back the clock a little and wonder how was my attitude when I went to sleep? I suppose a number of people as they prepare to go to sleep are feeling very warn down and their attitudes have a tendency to sag. Which is very normal. But if we make a good effort to go down in a relaxed mindset and think of the prospects of the day ahead with no anxiety and a feeling of positive hope we put ourselves in a good attitude for the waking hours.

Understand, I am not saying that if your waking thoughts are good god, it is already morning is going to put you in a negative state of mind for the entire day I am just pointing out that prior to our sleep each evening we have a choice to make. That choice will more than likely determine how we wake up.

Either way, I am up and ready to go tackle Day 680 only 20 to go to hit the # 700. The streak of burning 450 calories in 30 minute intervals is still alive. It now stands at 10. Today is the earliest time in the am I have attempted to burn 450 in 30 minutes since the streak has begun.

To this I say Good, God it is morning!

PS- this is the 200Th consecutive day I have entered into this blog!

So, the record stood at 11 after a brisk 455 calorie burn in the 1st 30 minutes, hooray! I burned 60 in the next 4 minutes, you are the man keep it going! As fate would have it I the blogger himself the guy who has logged 685 workouts in the last 680 days began to sag. The numbers told the story. I finished by burning 879 calories in 60 minutes. To break it down in 30 minute intervals I burned 455 calories in the first 30 minutes and 424 in the second 30 minutes-BOO-
I am never one to lend excuses but I will site some variables to today's ride versus the other five ride in which I had the streak of burning at least 450 calories in 30 minutes.

I belief it is only fair to understand my philosophy on variables. My philosophy on variables is variables are conditions usually controlled by me. A condition in my mind is nothing more than a challenge. A challenge is only something that must be defeated. However we always learn from our challenges. The reason why we always learn from our challenges is because experience is the best teacher.
Variable # 1 the fan was off which allowed me to perspire more than I usually do when the fan is on.
Variable # 2 the clothing I wore was thicker than I normally do so I perspired even more than I normally do.
Variable # 3 the time I rode the bike was the earliest of the six days I have been on the streak.

I choose this challenge and I wanted to see if despite these conditions I could still win and keep the streak alive. Heck, I won the first 30 minutes but lost in the second. I feel one out of two is not bad. Also, this is not the first time I have attempted to ride with the fan off. The other times I have tried it, someone has come along and turned the fan on.

I just love the challenge.I know tomorrow will pose a new challenge with somewhat different conditions and I will be up for it!

Day-679- Happy New Year!

A new year a chance at redemption a time for sober reflection. As I watched the ball drop last night I was struck by a simple thought some where somebody is plotting their course for next year. The delightful thought that also crossed my mind is that more than somebody will carry out their goals and be watching the ball drop next year knowing that their goals were reached.

These people have a vision now and are determined to see their vision of dare I say, 2010 happen. As we look around and watch things evolve in the coming days weeks and month that will shape this new decade will start to see other people plans for this year take place.

Time it is said "waits for nobody, it just goes on its merry way."It is now time for US to pack up and send dreams and visions and include them in the next course of time.

I have a vision of getting the 9Th 30 minute interval of time burning at least 450 calories while riding the life cycle.

Today is a good challenge I went to sleep at 2am and woke up at 6 am. It is now 7:30am the gym opens at 8 am -

Prospero ano nuevo

Day 679- Ah of course there is a story. The gym was scheduled to open at 8am but thanks to a great worker at the gym it opened at 745am-That is awesome!! I got on the life cycle at 8 am. Despite the fact that my workout would be a few hours ahead of my last workout I was extremely determined to keep the streak alive. In the first 30 minutes of the ride I kept the 450 calorie burn or more alive. I burned 474 (which is 4 more than I burned yesterday in the first 30 minutes. Now, realizing that I must now burn at least 924 calories in 60 minutes to keep the streak alive of burning 450 calories or more in 30 minute intervals. I knew all I had to do was burn 450 calories or more to accomplish that goal. In the next 10 minutes I burned 150 calories.
So, I needed to burn 300 more calories in the next 20 minutes to reach the 450 calorie burn goal.

Here is where it got interesting; At the 52 minute mark the machine inexplicably shut off. At that point i believe I had burned 805 calories which still had me on pace to reach the goal. I was very disappointed no no I was pissed - But instead of taking the machine and throwing it I thought for a second. Hmm, what to do? So, I jumped on the other machine and realized the straps on the pedal were set up to fit smaller feet than I have.So I pedaled like a nut for a few minutes then decided to try the machine that shutoff again. So, I got on it and pedaled like a lunatic and told myself If I can average burning 16 calories a minute in the next 4 minutes I will reach my goal - I did it and 2010 is off to a great start! I felt great did the plank for 15 minutes 1400 crunches - And my back did not feel testy.
